WorldSkills is a not for profit membership association open to agencies or bodies which have a responsibility for promoting vocational education and training in their respective countries/regions.

The 40th Bi-Annual World Skills 2009 competition was held at Calgary’s world famous Stampede Park, between 01-07 September 2009. Premier Showfreight was appointed by NALSI and endorsed by the Organiser (UK Skills) as the official freight forwarder to the British team competing at the event.

Project objectives

  • Co-ordination with over 33 exhibiting companies, in the UK to arrange transportation from their premises to our consolidation depot, including temporary importation procedures and dangerous goods declarations, where applicable.
  • Consolidation of equipment via airfreight for movement to Calgary.
  • Arrange customs clearance and delivery to local warehouse.
  • Offloading and delivery to individual stands.
  • Provision of lifting equipment at the venue, for the duration of the build-up and break-down periods.
  • On-site attendance and assistance through out event.
  • Removal and storage of empty packing cases for duration of exhibition
  • Return of empty cases and re-packing, labelling all return shipments
  • Uplift all equipment from display areas, at the conclusion of the event.
  • Consolidation of return equipment via airfreight for return movement to UK.
  • Arrange re-delivery to various UK locations, in accordance with client’s delivery date and timings.

Premier Showfreight Ltd worked with our local official partner North American Logistics and handled over 7 tonnes of equipment from 35 different skills categories to and from Calgary via airfreight.

UK exhibitors utilizing our freight logistic services, were provided with clear instructions and shipping guidelines regarding sending their toolboxes and freight to Calgary. A wide range of skills were displayed from Aircraft Maintenance, Bricklaying to Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy. Premier had to deal with shipments that were hazardous and provide dangerous goods declarations for all relevant hazardous shipments and provide advice on packing and packaging.

After a successful World Skills 2009 event, Technical Support Director Mr. Charles Turner for UK Skills had e-mailed conveying his thanks for the high level of service he received from Premier Showfreight Ltd;

I have been involved in this operation on I believe nine previous occasions and I don’t remember any to have gone so smoothly. This was also the first time that we had a UK representative from the shipper on site which was much appreciated.”
